Monks Hood

A clump of Monks Hood grows wild on a mossy log on the Clearwater River which runs near Delta Junction, Alaska.       Latin Name: Aconitum napellus

Monk's Hood is a perennial herb with tuberous fleshy roots and erect stout stems (0.5-1.5 meters tall). Leaves have 5-7 segments, deeply divided. Flowers are violet-blue with helmet-shaped hoods.
