Cotton Grass

This image shows an incredible display of Alaska Cotton Grass surrounding a pond off the Denali Highway. The seed pods are soft, white, and have hairy heads at the top of the stalk.  The lower stems and roots are edible and mice collect them.  Eskimos unearth mouse caches and help themselves to these, "Mouse Nuts".
